After I got home from the hospital, it was obvious I needed support. As a small business owner I am used to wearing a lot of hats and doing things on my own. I am not used to accepting and asking for support but this whole thing has taught me the importance of not being an island unto myself. I was lucky my sister came up to help me out. Even without asking. And that will always mean a lot. I could not do anything. Even going to the bathroom was a challenge. I could do it just fine but the weight of the leg and sheer exhaustion made it almost impossible to get my leg back on the couch when I got back. I had to sleep on the couch as people came to visit. It also allowed me to sit up. But I needed her support to help get the leg back on the couch. I needed her support to make the meals, let the dog out and so much more. And through all this I had neighbours cutting my lawn, getting my mail, taking the garbage out and so much more. And it taught me the value of support.
A concept I want to carry on as a Prince George small business owner. We need as a community of entrepreneurs to come together. And support and help each other. For example, a gym owner can support a healthy restaurant or a juice bar. Do not be afraid to ask for help. We need to come together and make a better Prince George, the small business is the backbone of the economy and a stronger business helps us all.
