They rolled me to Xray and I was so glad I was still on pain killers because even sedated I felt every little bump on the floor and when they moved my leg to get better views I felt it. Not significant pain but that was thanks to the drugs. So they took X-rays and even a CT scan and must have been surprised at what they saw. A short time later someone came to me and said there was significant damage done and for the first time in my life I heard the words Tubular Plateau Fracture.
They explained to me that basically the top of my shin was no more according to the X-rays and that I had the option of getting surgery and getting it fixed with pins and plates or getting it casted to heal on its own. I have to be honest I thought at the time (and still do not understand this) but I thought surgery would help it heal faster. But it actually heals faster without the surgery according to the reading I have done. But I guess it heals better with the surgery. But never the less they explained to me what the Xrays said and gave me the option. I asked the man what he would do and he told me he would get the surgery so I remember saying right then “ok let’s do it” because as I said earlier the healing had already begun.
They showed me the x-rays on a monitor but I was too far away to see it and too tired to worry about it. My favourite nurse Jane came by later as I was awaiting surgery and told me she had seen the X-rays and was surprised herself at the damage. Since they had to put me under to do the X-rays they ended up calling a friend of mine to get the ok for the surgery and I did hear a lot of what was said then.
